Misty Ricardo visits Chaigeley

On Thursday 5th February we welcomed award winning author, Richard Sayce aka Misty Ricardo to our school.

Richard has published three cooking books so far, all of which have received awards both in the UK and abroad.

In 2021, his book entitled ‘Curry Compendium’ won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for the Best UK Asian Cookbook (published outside Asia).

Our school Chefs Jenny and Tom have been following the recipes in this book bringing British Indian Restaurant style meals to the pupils and so, were delighted to have Richard join them this week as they cooked 2 curries from his book. They also cooked Bombay Potatoes, Chapatis and Onion Bhajis.

All the food was cooked from scratch, and everything was polished off.

To finish the day, Richard kindly agreed to take part in a Q&A session with pupils about the challenges and inspirations that he has experienced during his life.

Last year, Richard was approached by St Rocco’s Hospice to devise a curry for their 40 anniversary. He produced a unique recipe calling it ‘Ruby Murray Chicken Curry’.

As the school are celebrating their 80 anniversary this year, Richard has offered to create a special recipe for our school too. We will pass on the recipe once we have seen it and tried it.
