Computing
Intent
At Chaigeley School, our Computing curriculum is designed to be inclusive, engaging, and practical, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to explore technology confidently and creatively. Our aim is to equip students with the digital skills they need for everyday life, further education, and future employment. From Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, we focus on building independence, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to use technology safely and responsibly.
Implementation
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2, students begin their Computing journey through hands-on activities that make learning fun and accessible. They develop essential skills such as typing, using simple coding programs, and creating digital art and animations. Lessons emphasise online safety, independence, and confidence-building, ensuring students understand how to use technology positively and responsibly.
Key Stage 3
As students progress to Key Stage 3, they expand their digital skills through exciting, practical experiences. These include:
· 3D printing, where students design and create their own models
· Coding and game design, developing logical thinking and problem-solving
· Drone flying, carried out safely and under supervision
· Exploring Artificial Intelligence, learning how machines can “learn” and how AI shapes daily life
All lessons are adapted to meet individual needs and learning styles, ensuring every student experiences success and enjoyment.
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4, the emphasis is on preparing students for life beyond school. Learners work towards Functional Skills qualifications in ICT, gaining practical experience with tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and online communication. Students continue to engage in creative projects including 3D design, coding challenges, and AI explorations. Our flexible and supportive approach helps each student achieve their personal best and feel confident in their digital abilities.
Impact
Through our Computing curriculum, students develop practical digital skills, confidence, independence, and responsible digital behaviours. They gain creative and critical thinking skills through hands-on digital projects. Our learners leave Chaigeley equipped to thrive in a digital world, ready for further education, employment, and life beyond school.
