Year 10 and 11 pupils were invited to a days work experience by Equans at their new housing development site at Winsford. The pupils were greeted on arrival by the project manager and given a tour of the site and a map of the development. The pupils were then given their health and safety briefing, COSSH assessment and fitted for their safety work wear.
Pupils were then introduced to a tiling activity in one of the new builds. Pupils measured walls, leveled with adhesive, cut tiles to measure, spaced and fitted tiles. The tiler leading their session was impressed with both their work and questioning.
After lunch the pupils had a go at bricklaying, learning to use the trowel, mix mortar, level walls and lay both brick and block. Two of the pupils progressed to building and pointing corners.
This was a valuable experience for all involved, with all pupils showing exemplary behaviour whilst undertaking the various activities. The experience also served to really inform some of the pupils about the pathway they want to take Post 16.
