Welcome to Lilac
We are the KS2 class at Chaigeley. In Lilac Class, we embrace the spirit of adventure and discovery. Led by our staff members Anna, Alex, Chantelle and Sarah. We embark on a journey of learning and growth each day. As the starter class in lower school, we typically comprise pupils from Year 4 up to Year 6, fostering a dynamic learning environment where everyone has a voice. At the heart of our classroom culture is the nurturing of relationships. We understand the importance of connection and collaboration, and we actively work on building bonds that extend beyond the classroom walls.

Form Team Overview
Through a variety of activities and projects, we empower each student to take ownership of their independence, fostering confidence and self-reliance along the way. We also believe in the power of understanding and managing our emotions, cultivating empathy, and fostering a supportive community where every individual feels seen and heard.
Our year is filled with exciting trips, including visits to museums, local community sites, use of public transportation, Legoland, beach visits, and Gullivers World. Central to our ethos is the value of respect and kindness. We treat each other with dignity and compassion, celebrating our differences and supporting one another’s growth, where every pupil is valued for who they are.
Things to look forward to…
February 2026
We’ve had a fantastic half term in Lilac Class exploring the fascinating world of the Romans. We learned about the powerful Roman army and how they invaded Britain, thinking carefully about why they came and how they were so successful. We explored what life was like for Roman soldiers and compared this to how the Celts lived before the invasion. Pupils enjoyed discovering the differences between Roman towns and Celtic settlements, Roman armour and Celtic weapons, and how daily life, homes and beliefs differed between the two groups. There were some brilliant discussions about who might have had the harder life and why!
Next half term, we are moving into an exciting new theme of exploration and survival, inspired by our core text, The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. Our big question will be:
Could you survive a night in the wild?
Through hands-on, practical learning, pupils will explore what humans need to survive – thinking about food, water, shelter, warmth and safety. We’ll be investigating plants and materials, designing and building shelters and survival tools, and developing our confidence in explaining our thinking through lots of discussion and teamwork.
We’re also looking forward to some exciting trips to bring our learning to life. At Chester Zoo, we will explore how animals adapt to survive in different environments, linking directly to our learning about habitats and adaptation. A visit to Peak Cavern will allow us to experience a real natural environment and consider how challenging conditions affect survival. We will also be visiting Anderton Centre, where pupils will take part in adventurous outdoor activities that build resilience, teamwork and confidence.
